Australian astronomers on Wednesday said they have discovered a star that glitters with zirconium, a material often used to make fake diamonds.
According to Australian Astronomical Observatory's Dr Simon O' Toole, this was the first star of its kind, which has been discovered so far.
"It's a very unusual star. We're not completely clear how it formed" he told Australia Associated Press on Wednesday. "This is the first one we've seen with this much zirconium."
The astronomers estimated the star contains four billion tonnes of zirconium, located in its outer layers.
Dr O'Toole said it is the reason why they call it bling, as it is basically a kind of decoration.
The star has 10,000 times more zirconium than the sun, and astronomers are now trying to find out why.
"We're trying to get more data on stars like this until we find more and more interesting stuff," Dr O'Toole said.
The star was discovered by an Irish research team in New South Wales of Australia, headed by graduate student Naslim Neelanamkodan and her supervisor Dr Simon Jeffrey.
